Product Description
Back in 1974, heiress Patty Heart was abducted and held to ransom by US extremist group, the Symbionese Liberation Army, who wanted to overthrow the US government in a gesture of solidarity for African-Americans and underprivileged. During a bank robbery, TV cameras recorded the siege live where Patty, gun in hand, was alongside her alleged captors. Those were images that shocked the world Now everyone wondered if she was forced to participate or had done do it voluntarily? This transformed the power of news coverage in a form of reality television especially since the cameras were present at the fatal shoot-out between certain members of SLA and the police. Director Robert Stone has assembled newsreel footage like a cinematic detective as well as orchestrating his own interviews with members of the SLA, talking for the first time about events, trying to understand whether Patty Heart was victim or a volunteer (today shes a regular in John Waters films). By painstakingly retelling the events, he has crafted a film that is a powerful commentary on a unique historical event, exploring the nature of rebellion and the growth of the mass-media. In the light of recent global events, it also serves as a poignant study in terrorism.
